Comedy
With our humble beginnings running shows on our back patio during the pandemic, Nothing Fancy has emerged as one of Toronto’s hottest new stages. A favourite spot for local comics and visiting acts, we've become not only a hangout but a home for the city’s funniest people. An unpretentious and intimate space, we aim to provide a comfortable and professional environment for both audiences and performers.
We hope to be a milestone space for comic’s careers, a space where people can try stand-up for the first time or be the first club they headline. We’re welcoming of all levels of performers and we hope to foster a supportive community for comics to develop their unique comedic voices.
Nothing Fancy operates as a hybrid between a more traditional club model and an independent venue. We book our own shows but we also offer our space to comics who want to produce shows. We believe comics should profit from their work. That’s why all spots that are booked by Nothing Fancy are paid spots. We support not only the art form but the comics themselves by providing paid opportunities to explore their craft. We strive to create a model that other venues can look to in the future and aid in creating a cultural shift within the comedy community.

MARC HALLWORTH
Marc Hallworth has been described as "too poor for how happy he is." Originally from Calgary, Marc moved to Toronto in 2009 and has since been part of JFL42, NXNE, YYComedy, FunnyFest, the Brantford Comedy Festival, the Las Vegas 420 Cannibas Comedy Festival, the Country Comedy Festival, the Purge (where he opened for The Sklar Brothers), the Bollywood Monster Mashup (where he opened for Aparna Nancherla) and The Far From Here Comedy Festival (where he opened for Jackie Kashian). With his debut album “Happy Pappy” coming out at the end of 2022, he is a rostered comedian with Yuk Yuk's, was the second-place winner of the Flat Tire Comedy Competition, a semi-finalist in the Toronto Comedy Brawl and Prove You're A Comic Competition, has appeared on SiriusXM Radio as part of “Canada Laughs,” and was chosen to host the Ontario Celebration Zone as part of the PanAm Games. With material that's not out to offend, his few goofy ideas and personal anecdotes all culminate towards some real optimism!
