With our humble beginnings running shows on our back patio during the pandemic, Nothing Fancy has emerged as one of Toronto’s hottest new stages. A favourite spot for local comics and visiting acts, we've become not only a hangout but a home for the city’s funniest people. An unpretentious and intimate space, we aim to provide a comfortable and professional environment for both audiences and performers.
We hope to be a milestone space for comic’s careers, a space where people can try stand-up for the first time or be the first club they headline. We’re welcoming of all levels of performers and we hope to foster a supportive community for comics to develop their unique comedic voices.
Nothing Fancy operates as a hybrid between a more traditional club model and an independent venue. We book our own shows but we also offer our space to comics who want to produce shows. We believe comics should profit from their work. That’s why all spots that are booked by Nothing Fancy are paid spots. We support not only the art form but the comics themselves by providing paid opportunities to explore their craft. We strive to create a model that other venues can look to in the future and aid in creating a cultural shift within the comedy community.

George was adopted from Sierra Leone by Canadian parents and was raised in the Yukon in a community of 25,000 people. Facing adversity as a young black child in a small community, comedy and entertainment became his main calling. Whether it be breakdancing, music, acting, cooking, entertaining, or just making his friends laugh, George has been performing for 9 years, finding his stride within the last four years in Toronto. George has recently recorded with just for laughs originals, Underground Comedy Railroad for Comedy Records and he is a regular comic at Comedy Bar, Corner Comedy Club, and Nothing Fancy. George is also no stranger to making appearances in Indie music videos and sketch comedy projects. Relatable, outgoing, and unapologetically Canadian! Yukon REPRESENT!
